Interview: The Del Toros (Part 1)

Adam: Alright, so the first question is going to be: What’s next for the Del Toros?

Davey: Well, right now, we’ve got a CD release show on the 23rd [Ed: TONIGHT!] , and we’re looking forward to a great turn out, 8 dollars at the door, and you get the CD for free. Cody Clinton, Chris McLeod, and Motive for Movement are playing with us, and we’re going to play our whole album front to back; so, the people know what they’re getting.

Brad: You guys just have the one album right now?

D: Right now, and the next weekend after that, we’re playing Free Tulsa! Friday night at 7:30 at the Crystal Pistol, and from there, we’ll see where the road takes us.

A: Excellent, excellent, excellent. The Del Toros, I think, is a pretty rad band name, and I was going to ask you where you came up with that at.

D: Benicio del Toro is about as badass an actor as you can get.

A: Fair enough.

D: He has an awesome last name.

A: You should’ve left it the Benicio del Toros. That would’ve been pretty awesome.

D: It was kind of a running joke with me. I didn’t have a band at the time. I just want a bass player and drummer, and I’ll play my acoustic guitar, and we’ll be called the Del Toros. I got more than that, and well, I thought the Del Toros is still a pretty cool name.

B: Well done.

A: And I was going to ask you: what are you favorite band names of other bands? This is one where you could probably email us the answers.

D: Adam, go.

Adam: A band name that I’ve always loved from the first time I heard it was Coldplay. I think that’s a great name for a band.

D: I was just listening to them.

A: It’s because they’re awesome. They don’t sound anything like that, but they’re awesome. Just to clarify this.

D: I am insanely jealous that the name Radiohead is cemented in rock and roll history. I mean they’re the best band in the world, but they have the coolest name ever.

That release show is tonight at the Marquee. Tons of fun guaranteed, and be sure to check back for future installments of The Del Toros interview when Davey and Adam discuss their favorite horror movies and reveal how they would kill another human being. It’s all right here on Blood Red Dirt.

Enjoy it.

Chuck Cooley & The Demon Hammers will be slammin Shennigans with Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre, and The Savage Young and Mayola will be rockin the SoundPony. Alex & The Anders will be partying and bonging beers at the Riverwalk Amphitheater, and Assimilation will be happening at the Marquee, for all you rivet heads.

AAAAANNNNDDDD, Sunday night, at the Cains Ballroom, The New Pornographers will be kicking ass with The Dodos and Imaad Wasif, which should be a bitchin show. Or, if you prefer skinny jeans and gauged ears, Take Thy Name, Reign in the Unkown, Served, and Idefy will be just down the street at the Marquee. Or, if you’re still not happy, Wild Moccasins and Kite Flying Robots will be at the Soundpony.
